A special CBI judge in Nagpur convicted two former officials of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in connection with separate cases of disproportionate assets.
The ex-official, Ajaz Hussain Siddiqui, was sentenced to six years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 22.95 lakh. His wife Sajiya Begum will undergo a four-year jail term and has been slapped with a fine of Rs 4.50 lakh.
The CBI had registered a case on February 1, 2005, against Ajaz Hussain Siddiqui, then Chute-man posted at Sillewara Sub Area, WCL in Nagpur on allegations that he possessed huge assets, both movable and immovable, either in his name or in the name of his family members.
The investigation revealed that Ajaz Hussain Siddiqui was in possession of assets to the tune of around Rs 17.71 lakh in his name and his wife, disproportionate to their known sources of income.
After investigation, a chargesheet was filed before a special CBI judge in Nagpur on November 30, 2006, against the accused. The trial court found both the accused guilty and convicted them.
In another case, the special judge sentenced Irshad Hussain Siddiqui, then Mechanic Fitter at WCL, Nagpur, to undergo five years of imprisonment with a fine of Rs 13.65 lakh.
A CBI case was lodged on November 30, 2006, against Irshad Hussain Siddiqui on the allegations that the accused was in possession of huge assets between May 1996 to February 2005. The accused was in possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income to the tune of around Rs 10.77 lakh.
After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against the accused on January 30, 2008. The trial court found Irshad Hussain Siddiqui guilty and convicted him.
