A lot has been reported about Aamir Khan‘s involvement in the biopic based on lawyer Ujjwal Nikam’s life. Stories in the media have detailed how Aamir is collaborating with Dinesh Vijan and Avinash Arun to develop this dramatic tale about Ujjwal Nikam and his career as a respected public prosecutor. But ETimes has managed to dig deeper and get you a new scoop in this story.
Originally, filmmaker Umesh Shukla (who has directed OMG and 102 Not Out in the past) and was to direct a film on Ujjwal Nikam’s life.That project was to be produced by him along with Sejal Shah and Bhavesh Mandolia of Bombay Fables company. Things didn’t work out for that team and Nikam’s project is now being produced by Jio Studios.
So what happened? A source revealed, “Umesh Shukla and producer Bhavesh Mandolia had met with Aamir Khan and the Nikam family during the COVID lockdown. Aamir was keen on being part of the project as an actor. But Aamir took time to finalise his commitment and the rights expired. But we now hear that Aamir is doing the project with Jio Studios.” Umesh and Bhavesh were writing the Nikam biopic together. They’ve had a creative synergy since both worked together on Akshay Kumar’s OMG as well.
Ujjwal Nikam is one of the most celebrated lawyers of the country and has worked on many big cases including the 1993 Mumbai Bomb Blasts case as well as the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. The makers are now in talks with Jio Studios. So what happens to Umesh Shukla? The source said, “They are still working on it and a decision on Umesh Shukla’s involvement in the project is yet to be taken.”
