President to honour 75 exceptional educators with National Teachers’ Award 2023 on Sept 5 – Times of India

NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu is set to bestow the prestigious National Teachers’ Award for the year 2023 upon 75 deserving recipients. The grand award ceremony is scheduled for September 5th, 2023, and will take place at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, as confirmed by a statement released by the Union Ministry of Education.
Every year, India marks the 5th of September as National Teachers’ Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of the former President, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The primary objective of the National Teachers’ Award is to pay tribute to the remarkable contributions made by educators across the nation. It seeks to honour those educators who have not only elevated the standard of education but have also positively impacted the lives of their students through unwavering dedication.
Each recipient of this esteemed award will be presented with a certificate of merit, a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, and a silver medal as tokens of recognition for their outstanding contributions to the field of education. Additionally, the awardees will be privileged to engage in an interactive session with the Prime Minister, as per the official statement.
For many years, the Department of School Education and Literacy, under the Ministry of Education, has been orchestrating a national-level event on Teachers’ Day. This event serves as a platform to confer the National Awards upon the most outstanding educators in the country. The selection process for these awards is rigorous and transparent, ensuring that only the most deserving candidates are recognized.
In an expansion of its scope this year, the National Teachers’ Award will encompass educators from the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. This broader inclusion reflects a commitment to acknowledge the exceptional contributions made by teachers across various educational sectors. The awards for 2023 will be distributed to 50 School Teachers, 13 teachers from Higher Education, and 12 teachers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
In an effort to recognize innovative teaching methods, impactful research, community engagement, and the novelty of educational work, the nomination process was conducted online, encouraging more involvement through Jan Bhagidari (public participation). The Union Education Minister has assembled three distinct Independent National juries, consisting of eminent individuals, to carefully select the most deserving teachers for this prestigious honour, as highlighted in the official statement.
