Salman Khan says Rs 1000 crore should be new box office benchmark for films – Times of India

Films like Pathaan, Gadar 2 and Jawan have set new benchmark at the box office worldwide. While the two Shah Rukh Khan starrers have been able to reach Rs 1000 crore mark, Sunny Deol‘s film has crossed Rs 500 crore in the Indian market. Reflecting on the massive success of these Bollywood films, Salman Khan said that it is now time to look at new benchmarks like Rs 1000 crore as the coveted Rs 100 crore club has now become a thing of the past.
At the trailer launch of Punjabi actor Gippy Grewal’s upcoming film Maujaan Hi Maujaan, it was mentioned how Punjabi films are doing exceptionally well at the box office. To which, Salman added that the way movies across industries are raking in moolah and setting new benchmarks, the new normal in the North is going to be Rs 500-600 crore.
“I feel this Rs 100 crore mark is going to be the rock bottom now. Everything is going to be Rs 400-500-600 crore plus now for the Punjabi industry, Hindi industry, every industry. Even Marathi films are doing those numbers right now. Basically, people are going to the theatres once again to watch movies. I think Rs 100 crore is not going to be a very big deal. I think the benchmark should be Rs 1000 crore for a film right now,” Salman said at the event.Gippy Grewal’s last film Carry on Jatta 3 had smashed all previous records and grossed over Rs 100 crore worldwide. The Punjabi actor said that he’s hoping Maujaan Hi Maujaan will earn big at the box office.
He also said that they used to get surprised when Punjabi films used to do business of Rs 10-15 crore. Last time, when they were asked if Carry on Jatta 3 can do Rs 100 crore, they didn’t want to say anything but by God’s grace, everything went well. He also mentioned that if Salman is saying such things then something huge will happen.
To this, Salman joked that they shouldn’t rely on his words because his predictions about his own films are going for a toss. “Mere pe mat jana bhai, picture pe jana, kyuki mere khud ke predictions meri films pe nahi chal rahe,” he said making the audience burst into laughter.
