State to reimburse entire course fee of ST, SC students studying medical, engg courses – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the election, the state government has taken an initiative to extend financial assistance to the scheduled tribe (ST) and scheduled caste (SC) students for pursuing higher studies.
The government will reimburse the entire course fees of ST and SC students studying medical and engineering at various government-run institutions under the Mukhyamantri Medhabi Chatra Protsahan Yojana (MMCPY), a financial assistance scheme.
Under this scheme, the entire course fee of the course tenure will be covered for the eligible ST and SC students studying in government institutions offering MBBS and engineering courses (BTech and MTech).
The course fee includes admission charge/seat acceptance charge/initial deposit annual course fee (tuition fee and all compulsory payable charges to institution), hostel admission charges, annual hostel/mess charges and any other incidental expenses for study like purchase of books/study materials, coaching/tutorial expenses.
“All such expenses duly signed by the dean/head of the institution and student may be forwarded to the district collector for reimbursement under the scheme. Thus, for all eligible ST and SC students from the year 2023-24 onwards, the entire component shall be borne by the ST and SC development department of Odisha government,” said an official letter issued by the department.
According to the department, the institutions will give adequate publicity to the scheme by affixing this on the notice boards, orienting the faculties, and authorities of the institutions, and making it mandatory upon every such institution to orient the students on September 11 and repeat the same every month if it is not a holiday.
