UP minister Kapil Dev Aggarwal, BJP MLA Vikram Saini sent to jail in riots case, get bail in 2 hours | Meerut News – Times of India

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Uttar Pradesh junior minister for vocational education and skill development (independent charge) Kapil Dev Aggarwal, BJP MLA from Khatauli constituency Vikram Saini, firebrand Hindutva proponent Sadhvi Prachi, along with several others surrendered before a local court on Tuesday in connection with the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots case.
The accused had been booked for holding a panchayat without permission on August 31, 2013, in Nagla Mandaur, which allegedly triggered communal violence that saw at least 50 dead and about 50,000 people displaced. A local court had issued summons to them and later a bailable warrant. However, they failed to appear before it. The court issued a non-bailable warrant.
On Tuesday, the accused surrendered before magistrate and the court in Muzaffarnagar ordered judicial custody. After remaining in custody for two hours, they were granted bail.
District government counsel Rajeev Sharma told TOI, ” The accused were booked under bailable section for violating Section 144. Even after issuing summons and warrant, they didn’t appear before the court. So, a few weeks ago, an NBW was issued against them.”
After getting bail, Aggarwal attacked the Akhilesh government and said, “They booked us under fake cases. The riots was their government’s failure, and to cover it up they framed BJP members.”
