Vicky Kaushal talks about privileged actors pretending to be middle-class, says, ‘the audience can see through it’ – Times of India

Vicky Kaushal is now gearing up for the release of his film, ‘The Great Indian Comedy’. The actor will be seen sharing screen space with Manushi Chhillar in the movie. Vicky has come a long way ever since his debut film ‘Masaan’ which had released eight years ago. Though, Vicky’s father Sham Kaushal is a renowned action director within the industry, Vicky had to carve his own niche and also had a very normal upbringing unlike star kids. In a recent interview, Vicky admitted that many privileged actors pretend to be relatable to avoid being ‘hated’ but the audience can see through it.
Vicky added that he has many friends from the industry and he doesn’t think anyone pretends now because the audience sees it. He further told Instant Bollywood that the process of pretense can get tiring because for how long can one do so. He further added that the audience hates if one pretends to be someone that they’re not. If one is true to themselves and that’s what they show – people will relate to that always. Vicky said that personally, he never thinks about whether someone is middle-class or rich. It’s only about who is genuine. If someone isn’t real or genuine, people won’t relate to them even if the person is middle-class.
Meanwhile, Vicky had admitted a while ago in another interview that his father asked him to carve his own path and never really helped him in getting work as an actor. Hence, he has seen his own share of struggle. Vicky started out as an assistant director to Anurag Kashyap, before becoming an actor.
