A 60-year-old woman was beaten by an unidentified man with her own cane nearly 50 times at a subway station in New York in the wee hours of Friday.
A purported video of the incident, which was apparently shot by a subway passenger, went viral on social media. In the video, the unidentified attacker can be seen lunging at the woman with an umbrella while she tries to oppose him with her cane.
However, the attacker then grabbed the woman’s cane, as she fell on the ground, and hit her more than 50 times on her head, abdomen, and legs, among other parts of the body.
The intensity of the attack was so great that a part of the cane broke off and fell to the ground.
During the attack, the woman tried to resist the attacker by pushing her hands and legs towards him. However, he remained unaffected and continued his flurry of attacks on the woman.
He also yelled and threw punches at the women during the attack, while his own pants begin falling down.
Speaking about the incident to the New York Post, the police said that the incident happened on Friday at the city’s Harlem metro station.
The police responded to the emergency call for the assault at about 3:30 am. However, the attacker managed to flee from the spot before the police’s arrival.
Later, the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. She is now believed to be in a stable condition. Notably, no fellow Subway passengers and workers tried to intervene and stop the attacker.
