Rohit Sharma said that picking India’s 15-member squad for the World Cup 2023 wasn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination. On Tuesday, September 5, the Men in Blue put forth their squad for the mega event to be played on Indian soil from October 5 to November 19.
Back in 2011, Rohit missed out on being picked for the World Cup on home soil. The veteran, who will be playing in his third 50-over World Cup, said that India have picked their best 15 for the upcoming tournament.
The likes of Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma missed the bus for the World Cup. Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul were picked as the two first-choice wicketkeepers.
“There are no surprises and you can only get 15 in. Some of the guys will be disappointed. I have gone through it and I know how it feels. We have good all-round options and this is best 15 we could get,” Rohit was quoted as saying in the press conference.
Rohit, who holds the record of scoring the most number of hundreds in a single edition of the World Cup back in 2019, said that India are yet to find their right combination.
“I have not thought about plans yet. Problem of plenty is a good problem to have. We have to see who is in form and who our opposition is. We need to see what the best possible combination could be. If someone misses out, then so be it. This keeps happening. You have to make tough calls for the team,” he added.
India’s first match in the World Cup is against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
