There has been a lot of curiosity over BLACKPINK’s association with YG Entertainment. The popular girl band was to renew their contract, but there has been no official work about it yet.
Latest buzz suggests that the agency has signed up the group for a non-exclusive contract. According to a Munhwa Ilbo, BLACKPINK has decided to renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment, which are non-exclusive.Hence they will continue their group activities with the agency, but are free to sign up with others for their individual promotions. It was also reported that two of BLACKPINK members have gone ahead and inked this deal with YG Entertainment.
Retaining the ambiguity over the deal, YG Entertainment reacted to this report and stated, “We are still in discussions. Nothing has been decided yet.” Commenting on the exclusive contracts, Sports Chosun quoted YG Entertainment’s statement, “We are negotiating with the artists regarding their exclusive contracts. The final outcome will be revealed through the document regarding major management issues related to investments.” BLACKPINK recently wrapped their big world tour, BORN PINK, and along with that, their contract with YG Entertainment also concluded.
Amidst this contract controversy, Jennie from BLACKPINK hit headlines after it was revealed that she has trademarked her name, ‘Jennie Ruby Jane‘. She took this step earlier this year, registering her name with the Korea Intellectual Property Rights. The popular idol has registered it in ten different categories.
